President's Message
I wanted to share with you some helpful information from the Arizona Federation of Republican, our hosts for the NFRW Biennial Convention.
PRE-CONVENTION TOURS
For your pre-convention amAZing travel fun, Arizona Trails Travel has requested that all tours be pre-booked as well as prepaid by 15 days ahead. Vouchers will be provided upon final payment. Jump on the NFRW site for more information on the tours, but a reminder that deadline is roughly Aug 24th which is Monday!!
AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION
I have had several members contact me about transportation from Sky Harbor Airport which is about a $60+ taxi ride. Super Shuttle is also an option, not sure of their pricing. How about sharing a limo with friends also arriving close to your time?
Vitesse Worldwide/Mary Thompson is your contact.
OPENING GALA ATTIRE
I have also had several inquiries as to attire for the Friday night. AZ does not plan this but the latest I heard was many members will be outside earlier in the evening with the Idaho Red Potato Truck and some at the indoors Awards Reception. Arizona is fairly casual...we're realistic about hot weather. Suggest something comfortable and cool for outside along with a wrap or light sweater if we move inside with air conditioning? Definitely toss a wrap or light sweater in your suitcase...every place is air conditioned.
HOSPITALITY SUITES-SAT NIGHT
I am only aware of 4...Arizona, California, Mississippi and the NFRW Slate. Only if you are hosting a suite not named above, please
contact Mary Williams. We will be publishing a list of parties for the Convention bag and want to make sure your state is included!
Also in the AZ Congressional Suite, you may meet and greet with various Congressional members who will be in attendance at varying times. Sheriff Joe will be in the suite on Friday morning and Congressional Suite info will be in the NFRW Program Guide.
During the 38th NFRW Biennial Convention, NFRW President Kathy Brugger, is inviting the State Presidents to join her and Julie Harris, NFRW Club Achievement Awards Chairman, in honoring your Club Presidents (or club designees) who are receiving a NFRW Club Achievement Award.
California is proud to have 94 clubs winning an Achievement Award in Phoenix, 54 of the awards are for Diamond Awards. Our CFRW Achievement Awards Committee Chair, Jackie Raspler and her committee, did an outstanding job. We are honored that CFRW will be one of the State Federations awarded The Betty Heitman Award for State Excellence. We want to thank all the clubs that worked so hard and will be receiving Achievement Awards in Phoenix.
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS RECEPTION
Time: 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Thank you for all you do,

Working Together To Make A Difference
______________ Congratulations Republican Leader Fuller!
We want to congratulate our dear friend and loyal supporter, Senator Fuller, who was just elected to lead the Senate Republican Caucus by unanimous support! Senator Fuller is the first woman to lead the Senate Republicans in California's history and we could not be more proud. She is an excellent example of everything a Republican Woman should be- compassionate, intelligent, hard-working, and even has a great sense of humor! Thank you for your dedication, Senator Fuller!
End of Session Deadlines
______________
Today is the deadline for fiscal bills to pass out of the Appropriations Committee in each house if they are to continue on to the floor for a vote. 415 bills are still in Appropriations awaiting their fate, 396 of those are in the "Suspense File". Bills that the CFRW are working on that are still in limbo are listed below. They will either fail after today, or we will need you to contact your legislators to support or oppose this bills!
AB 1099 (Olsen, R) The CFRW SUPPORTS this bill! AB 1099 would require school superintendents to oversee and make available the evaluating practices of their school district teachers, either online or at the district office. This empowers parents to more actively engage in the processes of their children's schools and aids in transparency at the local school level.
AB 1461 (Gonzales, D) The CFRW OPPOSES this bill! AB 1461 would register every eligible Californian to vote when they register or renew their license with the DMV. Although it gives Californians the ability to opt-out, it would add approximately 6.6 million eligible voters, many of which would not choose a political party affiliation.
ACA 4 (Frazier, D) The CFRW OPPOSES this bill! ACA 4 is a state constitutional amendment that would allow for local governments to impose, increase, or extend sales taxes by 55% of voters instead of the current 2/3rds vote required. Making it easier to levy taxes is the opposite way we want local governmental control to go!
SB 32 (Pavely, D) The CFRW OPPOSES this bill. SB 32 mandates that greenhouse gas emission levels in California be reduced to 40% of the 1990 levels by 2030 and 80% by 2050. This may not seem important, but a reduction so quickly will mean higher gas prices, hidden fees, cap and trade increases, and a bevy of other consumer price increases. Again, giving CARB, an unelected body of officials with supreme power, this much authority over Californians is ridiculous, not to mention dangerous.
Killed Bills
With deadlines looming, some of our bills have already met their demise. The good news is that SB 3 (Leno, D), the minimum wage hike, was stalled in the Appropriations Committee and will not remain active this year. SB 3 was yet another attack on businesses in California by mandating a wage increase for all employers. The bad news is that AB 289 (Melendez, R) also stalled in committee. AB 289 would have given legislative employees the same whistleblower protections as other government employees. Currently they are not protected by whistleblower laws and therefore have little incentive to report anything unethical. It seemed like a no-brainer to support a bill like this, but it appears the legislature enjoys its lack of transparency. Stay tuned next week to discover the fate of more bills on deadline!

SPECIAL EVENT at the CONVENTIONTen years ago during CFRW's 2005 Biennial Convention members held a grand party for our military wives. CFRW sent busses to Camp Pendleton to transport the wives to join members and guests at this same hotel, in order to show our deep appreciation for their devotion to our country and sacrifices they and their families make each day. It was a glorious night: dinner, music, speakers, gifts, entertainment, singing, laughter, hugs, etc. These military wives are indeed special.
