More than 160 Republican women and guests from at least five states traveled to Sugar Land, Texas, for the NFRW Region 4 meeting on May 17-18.
The event featured Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Senator Ted Cruz, and former U.N. Ambassador Sichan Siv. George P. Bush, deputy finance chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, served as the banquet speaker. The event also featured Capt. Gene Cernan, the last man on the moon, and Jeffrey Addicott, director of the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary's University.
In addition, presentations were made on immigration solutions, youth outreach, and the Republican ground game in the 2014 midterm elections. Authors Debbie Georgatos, Rachael Woods and Toni Anne Dashiell also made a presentation on leadership.
Region 4 includes Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Each state contributed to the meeting by bringing items for the welcome bags and live/silent auctions. The state presidents shared their successful programs with attendees, and former NFRW Membership Chair Tonya Stiel discussed membership and fundraising.
Region 4 Director Kathy Brugger reports that the following were instrumental in making the event a success: the Texas FRW and President Carolyn Hodges, event coordinator Marilyn Davis, and the Houston Greater Council. "I am fortunate to have worked with Region 4, and especially with Carolyn Hodges," Brugger said. "Carolyn's 'leap of faith' helped bring forth an educational, informative regional meeting. This is how I spell SUCCESS!"
