Region 5 (Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and Minnesota) held its regional meeting April 20 an 21. Wisconsin's Lt. Governor, Rebecca Kleefisch spoke during the luncheon on Saturday. She did a great job talking about how adversity makes us strong and encouraged us all to keep working towards our goal. She talked about her colon cancer during the initial 2010 election, the recall, and the fight for fiscal responsibility in Wisconsin. Steve Schleffler, the RNC National Committeeman from Iowa followed and discussed the RNC rule changes that were made at the RNC Spring meeting.
RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day presented the first workshop, in which she encouraged us to use social media and to demand a seat at the table with Republican men. She also encouraged us to run for office and discussed how important it is for Republican women to be on the ticket. Matt Schultz, Iowa's Secretary of State, then presented the second workshop on Voter ID laws. He explained how important a photo ID is for election integrity. Everyone had the opportunity Saturday night to have some great food and to visit informally at a reception at the hotel.
Tamara Scott, Iowa's RNC National Committeewoman, led Sunday morning's prayer breakfast and talked about her trip to Israel in January, tying scenes from the Holy Land into conditions in our country now, and emphasizing how important it for America to support Israel. As Regional Director, I would like to extend heartfelt and warm thanks to the Iowa Federation of Republican Women and President Jeanita McNulty for all their work putting together our regional meeting. - by Martha Jenkins
