This is the Golden State's first full go-round with its new “top-two” primary system, in which voters of all parties can cast ballots for candidates of any party.
The top two vote-getters advance to November's general election, regardless of party. So in some districts with lopsided party registration, you might see two Democrats on November's ballot, in others two Republicans.
Californians also will vote on two statewide ballot measures, Prop 28 and Prop 29.
...Humboldt County residents will vote for the 2nd Congressional District, 2nd Assembly District, 1st, 2nd and 3rd county supervisorial districts, Democratic Central Committee District 3 and 4, and board members for the newly formed Fortuna Elementary School District, depending on where they live.
Several local measures also are on the ballot. According to the Humboldt County Elections Office, Measure W is a school bond measure in Trinidad, Measure X is a road improvement measure in Rio Dell and Measure Y is a countywide measure asking to continue a vehicle license fee for the abatement of abandoned vehicles. Measure V is a school bond for the Southern Trinity School District. The district has one precinct in Humboldt County, in the Mad River area.
