President’s Message - March, 2009
The miserable barrage of news out of Washington leads many of us to wonder, “What will the bottom- line cost be for the votes that put President Obama in office?” Not justin personal savings and security and the wild spending in Washington, but in citizens’ ongoing views on personal responsibility.
At our last ERWF meeting, one of the leaders of a local veterans’ support organization said, “Most of the vets I help are liberals. Conservatives are a rarity.“ I have to speculate that difference is strongly tied to the veterans’ views on personal responsibility.
Recently Obama spoke about economic “plans” while avoiding specifics. Then a nice-looking black
lady was shown, who said, "It's time someone helps people who work 8-, 10-, 12- hour days." Like many of our membership, I consistently worked more than a 40-hour week. I sometimes held three part-time jobs plus home and family responsibilities. I just always thought that was me
helping me.
