President’s Message - February 2009

Valentine’s Day is most likely to come to mind when we start the month of February. Putting our hearts, heads, and energies into working for what is best for our families, our community and our country calls on us to be the best we can be. Pulled as we are in many directions, it can be all too easy for legislation we deplore to slide right by. ERWF can alert us to many of these measures. Then it’s up to us to take the next step and stand up to be counted—call, email, fax, or write elected officials and let your convictions be known. It could help to make a difference
and, even if it does not, there’s a lot to be said for knowing we were not part of that dismal silent majority.

In January your generous support of the Food for People program with donations of canned and plastic containers of much needed foods was a great boost. We are repeating contributions this month - please put your hearts into the effort.

HSU CONSERVATIVE CLUB

On Tuesday January 27, I had the pleasure of picking up Mr. Deroy Murdock at the Arcata Airport and deliver him to his B & B and then take him up to the HSU campus for his speaking engagement that evening in the Kate Buchanan Room. Mr. Murdock is a distinguished speaker, he writeS for ScrippsHoward, appears on television and is a Senior Fellow at the Atlas Research Foundation.

At HSU he spoke about Discrimination. The crowd was small, but he gave an impressive speech. ERWF member Rita O'Connell and her husband attended as did my husband, Tom. We had the pleasure of taking him to the airport for his return trip to New York City. Jerilyn Gashi, the HSU President of the College Conservatives, deserves much credit for the great job she and other club members did to make the event happen.

On February 18, 2009, Walid Shoebat, a former PLO terrorist, will speak at HSU Van Duzer Theatre at 7:00 pm. Please invite your family and friends to this special program. It is free. The HSU College Conservatives need your support. BY MARGARET STAFFORD

News from NFRW

"The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) sent its congratulations to new Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. The ERWF's congratulatory message cited his experience, character, and core principles as more than qualifying him to serve as our new chairman, and commented that he has the leadership ability to help rebuild the Republican Party. Republican women look forward to supporting him as chairman and helping him fulfill his goals."

Founded in 1938, the NFRW has thousands of active members in local clubs across the nation and in several U.S. territories, making it one of the largest women's political organizations in the country.
