None of the people currently losing their minds over immigration policy cared about this at all. The media was not much interested in reporting it. Obama was absolved of responsibility by citing immigration laws he didn't pass, like a Bush-era law meant to combat trafficking.

If you missed it, Sen. Dianne Feinstein on MSNBC last night: "This is the United States of Germ – I mean, United States of America. ... We don't take children from their parents. Until now."https://t.co/EIbeTwhGUn via @MailOnline

I'd forgotten about this. Hillary Clinton in 2014 on CNN: "We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border doesn’t mean your child gets to stay. We don’t want to send a message contrary to our laws or encourage more to come" https://t.co/kF7VQQtdaz

She wasn't advocating family separation, but she was promoting deportation as quickly as possible. Which is basically what Trump wants - and why he wants a change in federal law so Central American nationals are treated the same as Mexicans, who already can be quickly sent home.

What happened to the idea of saying 'Central American asylum seekers are free to apply but only at our embassy in Mexico City.' Seems promising. No separation of families. No confinement. No Act of Congress needed. You're free to wait out case in Mexico. https://t.co/C1MpL4XZZ0
