MSNBC's Bashir Apologizes For Saying Someone Should Defecate on Sarah Palin
◼ "...Upon reflection, I so wish that I had been more thoughtful, more considerate, more compassionate, but I was not and what I said is now a matter of public record. But if I could add something to the public record, it would be this: that I deeply regret what I said, and that I have learned a sober lesson in these last few days. That the politics of vitriol and destruction is a miserable place to be, and a miserable person to become. And I promise that I will take the opportunity to learn from this experience...." - Real Clear Politics
"...My words were wholly unacceptable. They were neither accurate, nor fair. They were unworthy of anyone who would claim to have an interest in politics, and they have brought shame upon my friends and colleagues at this network, none of whom were responsible for the things that I said. And at a place where we try every day to elevate political discourse and to focus on issues that matter to all of us...."
◼ Martin Bashir Apologizes For Repulsive Comments (Video) - Nice Deb
...Bashir said Palin deserved a punishment known as “Darby’s dose” because she compared the federal debt to slavery by using slavery in a general–and not a racial–sense...
There were some interesting developments over the weekend, however.
1. Bashir was not punished for making the offensive comments.
2. MSNBC actually promoted the segment after the right erupted in disgust and horror.
3. It was discovered that Bashir had made a slavery analogy of his own in 2011.
Check-mate.
At some point management at MSNBC must have realized that it might be hard for Dems to maintain their (wholly artificial and undeserved) edge in the #WarOnWomen vote when loose cannons like Bashir are dropping such nasty stink nuggets on conservative women.
So Bashir apologized. I mean over the weekend, this man had a complete change of heart and saw the error of his ways. He has no idea what possessed him to even say such things, and I’m sure MSNBC has no idea what possessed them to promote it.
