A service at the Whitehall Cenotaph is the focal point of the country's Remembrance Sunday ceremonies and saw senior royals, Prime Minister David Cameron and other party leaders leave floral tributes at the memorial.
Next year will mark 100 years since the First World War in which almost 900,000 military personel died and 1.6million were injured.
A two minute silence was observed across the country at 11.00am and 10,000 veterans showed up to the London ceremony.
