The poll also found that 54 percent of Americans believe that the legislators are acting appropriately in the response to the investigation surrounding the Internal Revenue Service’s improper targeting of conservative organizations.

“More Republicans than Democrats or Independents say these three issues [IRS, Benghazi and the Justice Department's subpoenaing of phone records belonging to Associated Press reporters and editors] are very important to the nation, but even among Democrats, nearly half say the matters are very serious,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said about the poll.

The CNN poll also found that the number of Americans who believe that the attack could have been prevented has increased by 11 percent since November.

Another poll released Monday by Rasmussen Reports also found that 45 percent of Americans would rate the Obama administration’s response to the attack as poor, and that eight in ten Americans believe it is extremely important for the government to get to the bottom of the Benghazi investigation despite the insistence of Democrats to move on.
