I am writing today to inform our members about the Wisconsin recall effort of Republican Governor Scott Walker. Why should this matter to people in California? It matters because what is going on in Wisconsin is a template for what the left and many Union members and leaders want to achieve throughout the country. In speaking to a Republican Woman in Wisconsin who is active in the fight to stop the recall of the Governor, she stated that the legislation (which limited the powers of the unions) passed by the Governor and the Republican Legislature has made a big difference in many communities throughout the state. They are now actually solvent.
As you know the unions in the state and from around the country have descended on Wisconsin to gather the 700,000 signatures needed to place the recall on the ballot. Many of these signatures appear to be invalid.
Republicans have learned that the names presented to election officials have to be left on the signature lists even if the signature is Adolph Hitler or Mickey Mouse. The candidate will have to do the verification of the signatures. The Party thinks that it will have 31 days to verify the signatures. They are debating the best way to do this. The legislation that is turning Wisconsin around would be reversed with a Democrat Governor.
I believe that this is one of the battles that Republicans need to join from around the country. Obviously, money matters. The unions are flooding Wisconsin with money from all over the country. As Republicans, we believe that an honest, legal legislative process is crucial to the protection of our system of government. This attack must be stopped before it takes hold around the country.
