The alert is a bit longer than usual but I want you to have more specific information.
Despite the United Nation’s undeniable anti-American bent, the United States is charged higher dues than any other nation – 22 percent of the total. In the last fiscal year, the bill came to $7.7 Billion – a 21 percent increase over the year before.
Now a key leader in the Republican House of Representatives is pressing for reforms commensurate with the extent of the problem and the size of our contributions.
(Thursday,) Oct. 13th at 2 PM, Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (Florida’s 18th District), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee plans to hold a mark-up session on H.R. 2829, the United Nations Transparency, Accountability and Reform Act. Passage by that committee would set the stage for action by the full House of Rep.
Chairwoman Ros-Lehtinen proposes to leverage U.S. aid to require real reforms.
There are also specific parts of the legislation that deals with the hostility to Israel.
• HR 2829 restores the Bush administration’s policy of boycotting the notoriously anti-Israel UN Human Rights Council, putting an end to the Obama administration’s ridiculous pretense that joining the panel without requiring reforms would make it less hostile to America and our allies.
• HR 2829 forbids additional American funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency until that agency addresses its well-documented deficiencies in preventing the flow of funds to Hamas terrorists and stops disseminating anti-Israel propaganda.
Every single congressional Democrat has refused to co-sponsor HR 2829. Nearly half of the House Republicans have become co-sponsors of HR 2829.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is determined to derail this legislation.
Please fax, e-mail or call your Congressman and urge him or her to co-sponsor HR 2829.
